Creative Decisions:

You’ve done the hard part of getting your session schedule. Now is the fun part!

Our team is incredibly talented and wants to offer their insights to help you ensure you make the most of your upcoming session.

I know you’ve already shared some of this information with us, but after doing this for a while, we know that additional changes can be made once you start coordinating with the rest of your team.

That said, we want to ensure the final images are authentic, and aligned with your brand. Please review the following things to think about before your session.

We will confirm these details prior to your session but if you have questions, let’s chat.

How creative decisions impact your messaging.

Creating impactful headshots involves making thoughtful choices that reflect your brand’s identity while showcasing individuality. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial to guide you in making your own creative decisions:

  1. 1. Setting and Background
Step 1: Choose a location or background color that feels authentic to your brand. Look for a space that reflects your company’s personality and values.
Step 2: Consider how the background will appear. A blurred background can add depth and highlight the individuality of each person while maintaining a clean and professional look.
Pro Tip: Ensure the setting complements your brand’s colors and vibe for a cohesive feel.

    2. Crop and Positioning
Step 1: Our standard crop is slightly below the chest, and horizontal. This look is most flattering for diverse body types, focuses on the face, and provides a bit of space for multiple crop options after the session.
  2. For a more approachable and dynamic look, consider half-body or three-quarter-body shots instead of just head-and-shoulders. If you would like multiple crop options, note this will add time to the session. Contact Jencen for more information.

    3. Clothing
Step 1: Define a dress code that aligns with your brand identity. Are you formal, business casual, or more creative and relaxed?
Step 2: Encourage individuals to choose outfits that reflect their personal style while staying within your guidelines. This adds personality without straying from your brand values.
Pro Tip: Provide a short style guide with examples to help your team make confident choices. Use our What to wear guide as a starting point WHAT TO WEAR

    4. Lighting
Step 1: Your photographer will direct the style of lighting that is best for your location and background. If you have a certain style in mind, or would like to talk about this in advance, please book a creative consult.

    5. Aligning Decisions with Your Brand
Step 1: Before shooting, define your brand’s foundation. Who is your audience? What is your company culture? Where will the images be used?
Step 2: Use these answers to guide every creative choice, ensuring the headshots reflect both your brand and your team’s personality.
